Although prevention and maintenance start with you at home, our dental cleanings are essential to keeping your smile beautiful and preventing greater issues from developing. Our highly trained team is with you every step of the way to reach and maintain a confident smile.
Preventative Dental Services
Even if you are dedicated to brushing and flossing your teeth, it is important to have professional routine cleanings. Scheduling twice-yearly hygienist appointments helps to remove plaque and tartar that can build up in hard-to-reach places in your mouth, thereby preventing tooth decay and gum disease. Prior to beginning any treatment, your hygienist will sit down with you to discuss your health history, both oral and otherwise. Please feel free to share any medical conditions or medications that may affect your dental health or care. At this time, you should also let us know if you have noticed any changes in your gums or teeth since your last visit.
Cavities, gum disease, and tooth decay can be easily resolved if they are identified early on. Dental examinations are key to helping us identify any issues with your oral health and learning if a proactive treatment is necessary. Typically performed after a dental cleaning, our staff will ask you about your overall health and oral hygiene routine, check your bite and jaw, and answer any questions you may have.
Looking Beneath the Surface
We use state-of-the-art X-rays to accurately identify and diagnose any concerns. Dental X-rays give us a detailed image of your mouth and teeth. Not only do X-rays help us analyze your bite, jaw, and teeth positions, they are essential for the detection of decay, tumors, cysts, and bone loss. Dental X-rays are not typically done at every visit; rather, they are performed at key times to monitor your mouth beneath the surface.
A Complete Examination
Your overall oral health is of the utmost importance to us. It is necessary for us to look beyond your teeth and gums to ensure you are clear from other oral health issues. During a general dentistry appointment, we examine your face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues, and gums for any signs of oral cancer. We also inspect the gums and bones around the teeth to evaluate the presence of gum disease, as well as to check the health of current fillings, crowns, or other existing restorative treatments.
If any problems or oral health concerns are detected during your examination, we will clearly outline treatment for you and schedule any necessary follow-ups.
